Aidenbach is known for the Peasants' War of 1706, the last stand of rebelling Bavarian peasants against the Habsburg imperial occupation. Today, the small town is a worthwhile stop for some memorable photos of the market square and a visit to one of its restaurants. www.aidenbach.de

Starting your tour in Aldersbach is doubly rewarding: The traditional monastery brewery, complete with a demonstration brewery and museum, brings the beer history of Lower Bavaria and Bohemia to life. Afterwards, several local inns await, offering freshly tapped Aldersbacher beer and a cozy atmosphere. The present parish church was built in 1900, after the previous church was closed in 1898 due to dilapidation and – with the exception of the tower – demolished.

Around 1120, an Augustinian canons' monastery was founded in Aldersbach; just 26 years later, Cistercians from the Ebrach monastery took it over and consecrated the monastery to Saint Mary, Mother of God. In 1803 it was nationalized. Today's complex includes the church with the parish area, a brewery with a restaurant and an educational facility with seminar rooms.
