A surprising place... immense and imposing. The monks lived on the other side of the vast church. That part is gone, but the place still inspires silence.

A small village to absolutely discover

Right next to the lobby there is a bakery. They are used to welcoming cyclists. Everything is homemade, they are very nice. Table and chairs outside sheltered for eating. I've been there twice, never disappointed.

With a length of 62 meters and almost 20 meters of height under the vault, the Saint-Germer Abbey presents itself in all its beauty. Its plan includes a long central nave of eight fairly narrow bays, a projecting transept and a single-span choir followed by an apse with ambulatory and five (now three) contiguous radial chapels. The façade superimposes four levels: large porticoes, stands, rectangular openings that pierce the roof spaces of these and high windows.

Former residence of Maurice Ravell, who liked it here so much that he stayed several times in the half-timbered house Les Lauriers on Rue d’Enfer and was inspired to create compositions by cobblestone streets and typical Norman half-timbered houses.

This village in the Norman Vexin region is utterly beautiful. Its central square, all curves, has many beautiful corbelled buildings to admire. The 17th-century wooden market halls are particularly noteworthy. This village, ranked among the most beautiful in France, is included in the Pays de Lyons region.
