On the D31, before starting the slight descent towards Saint-Haon, a delightful view of the Allier valley is revealed. Take advantage of it before picking up speed.

On the heights of the Allier, this village stands out nicely. The bell tower of its Romanesque church is distinguished by its four arcades. A lodge and a restaurant allow you to stop there.

Chapeauroux is a small town of a few houses which has the triple advantage of having an SNCF station, a municipal campsite and a beach on the banks of the Allier. The town on the other side of the bridge bears the charming name of New World. You are here on the border between the departments of Haute-Loire and Lozère.

There is no doubt that you are in Haute-Loire in Saint-Haon. In fact, we find the specialties of this department there: the cultivation of green lentils from Puy, the making of lace and cheeses. The town church, in Romanesque style, catches the eye with its comb bell tower which has four arcades. You will also find a bar and small shops.

Is it because you change department and enter a new world that this town took this strange name? Is it because there were once mines here which offered new perspectives to the inhabitants? The best is to ask the inhabitants of the village directly, if you come across them.

Arlempdes Castle is the first fortress built on the banks of the Loire. Built on a rocky peak, this 13th century construction is a jewel of Velay. The castle has been included on the list of historic monuments since 1926. During the summer, it is possible to visit it through ASACHAR (Association for the Protection and Animation of Arlempdes Castle).
