The existence of this fortified castle is mentioned as early as the 12th century. It is believed to have been built on an even older fortress. In 1764, the Château de Saint-Alban was requisitioned as headquarters to organize raids aimed at eliminating the Beast of Gévaudan.

Le Malzieu-Ville is a medieval gem in the Lozère department. The fortified old town, with its towers, gates, and narrow streets, invites exploration. Situated on the banks of the Truyère River, it is a stop on the Way of St. James. The surrounding forests and plateaus offer wonderful hiking and nature experiences.

This stopover gîte located on the crests of the Margeride is the perfect stopover in these fairly isolated places. Besides, there are no housing alternatives other than this one, except the bivouac.
