The approximately 1.5 hectare windthrow area was created on January 18, 2007 by storm Kyrill. The trees were only 58 years old. Usually the fallen trees are delimbed, the logs are driven out of the forest and sold to sawmills. Here, however, the city and the Kastellaun forestry office have made the decision to leave the area to nature and have created an exciting object for you to see. A total of two million cubic meters of wood (mainly spruce) fell victim to this storm in Rhineland-Palatinate alone. Part of it has to be preserved in so-called wet storage areas over the long term. On 18.1.2007 the storm Kyrill raged here, on this area the storm damage was left as an object of intuition. For better accessibility elaborate bars were installed. Caution: Two places are provided with steep stairs that are not or only very difficult to do by elderly people and dogs. We had to lift our 50 kg dog down the steep stairs :-(
