Schloss Gemuenden opened in 1301. It is owned and lived in by the van Salis family, so still in private family hands. It is not really open for visits, but is available for events, weddings, and such both inside and outside. In particular the gewolbe cellar is very nice, and the lovely terrace is very nice and has a great view of Gemuenden. Gemünden Castle was built in the 12th or 13th century and has been completely preserved to this day. The castle is wildly romantic in the Hunsrück surrounded by forests. It is privately owned and cannot be visited freely. For events, especially for weddings, the castle can be rented as a beautiful location.

On the 440 meter high Bannholz, protected from agriculture by a forest, there are over 100 easily recognizable barrows from the Hunsrück-Eifel culture (Iron Age, late Hallstatt period). While 2,500 years ago the burial mounds were located on the 440 meter high hill in open terrain and visible to everyone, today the entire area is overgrown with spruce monocultures. You can see the large and small burial mounds everywhere, although I liked the group of burial mounds in the western part the best, as in addition to the mounds, the surrounding ditches and ramparts can still be clearly seen, so-called grave gardens.
