It is a very difficult climb that can be done directly from below. There are two ways, both difficult. It is better to go up the road and then go back down from the top. Fantastic views

Very well restored medieval castle. The proposed guided tour, ideally lasting 30 minutes, details its history and focuses on the different techniques used at the time to conquer a castle. It is also on this aspect that the museum focuses, with a beautiful collection of weapons and armor. You can also attend workshops and shows. For more peace and quiet: obviously favor a visit early in the morning.

Well-preserved castle - complex, very well attended - better not go there on the weekend. But the beautiful view should not be missed.

The castle of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a medieval castle located in the eponymous commune in the Dordogne department in France. It overlooks the Dordogne valley and offers stunning views of the river and surrounding hills. The castle was built in the 12th century on a rocky spur overlooking the Dordogne valley. It was expanded and modified over the centuries to become an imposing medieval fortress, with watchtowers, ramparts and moat. During its eventful history, the castle of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle was the scene of numerous battles and was taken and recaptured several times by the French and English armies during the Hundred Years' War. Today, the castle of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is open to the public and houses a museum of warfare in the Middle Ages, with medieval armor, weapons and war machines. Visitors can also explore the rooms of the castle, climb the ramparts and enjoy panoramic views of the Dordogne valley. Cultural events such as falconry shows and historical reenactments also take place on site.

Castle with exhibition about Josephine Baker. Very nice park and views of the surrounding area and the Dordogne. Entry €12/adult (2019). In 1938 the castle was first rented by Josephine Baker and then purchased in 1947. She arranged for electricity and water connections in the castle and in the adjacent village of Milandes, which became the first village in the Périgord to have these amenities. Josephine Baker also commissioned a complete renovation of the interior. (Source: Wikipedia)

The Chateau des Milandes, built in the late 15th century, was temporarily owned by the world-famous chanson singer and dancer Josephine Baker. During the Second World War she was a member of the Resistance and the Armed Forces of the Free France. In 1947, Josephine bought the beautiful castle with a view over the Dordogne and the "black" Perigord (part of the Perigord riddled with limestone caves). She married a world-famous conductor and together they created a rainbow family. From her travels all over the world she brought back a total of 12 abandoned children, adopted them and turned her village within a village into a global village. There are even more beautiful chateaus here on the Dordogne
