Now let me say: A tourist center. By no means THE tourist center. The lake is quite nice. There used to be a Dorint Hotel here. But over time it was allowed to deteriorate and too little was invested. It has recently been orphaned and closed.

Very beautiful and varied hike with a few climbs, which, however, can be easily mastered provided you have the appropriate basic fitness. The reward for the effort are some really great views up to the heights of the Hunsrück. Sufficient benches on the way always offer the opportunity for a short break. In the Prümtal we were still able to discover traces of the devastating floods of mid-July 2021.

The reservoir near Biersdorf (approx. 12 kilometers northwest of Bitburg) in the scenic Prüm valley is the tourist center of the southern Eifel. The 35-hectare reservoir offers many different ways to spend the day during the warmer months. Those looking for relaxation will get their money's worth with rowing, paddling and fishing. The water glitters in the sun, a fountain shoots up in the middle of the Bitburg reservoir in Biersdorf and pedal boat riders enjoy their ride in the sunshine. The start of the Stausee-Prümtal route circular hike is like strolling along the edge of the river. Another look at the anglers trying their luck and hoping for a magnificent trout. Then the Eifel hiking tour goes into the curved valley of the Prüm, into the barren landscape of the Islek. The many little wonders along the way reveal themselves to hikers and are waiting to be discovered. There is the “Hermitage”, a pretty chapel in the woods near Wiersdorf. Many years ago, the hermit Jakob Leisen lived here, looking for leisure and inner contemplation. After a few meters in altitude, another world unexpectedly reveals itself behind a bend: the view falls on the magnificent, medieval Hamm Castle. There is more of a colorful, happy hustle and bustle here when the wedding couples say their vows and celebrate with their guests. But there are many other miracles to discover on the path besides the love spell. Numerous medicinal herbs grow along the path and the rugged rocky landscapes with their inclusions that are millions of years old tell their own story.
