No mausoleum, no monument, no legacy. No pomp whatsoever. Conrad the Great had the magnanimity to remain modest. He even had the family grave moved from Cologne's famous Melaten Cemetery to this quiet side valley. The shrewd Rhinelander remained Prussian to the very end. The Berlin Republic, which wants to resurrect Prussian monuments, has failed to grasp this.

The monument honors the famous Cologne singer-songwriter and carnival composer Willi Ostermann for his contribution to Rhineland culture and musical tradition. It is a place of remembrance and appreciation for his works.

A very nice rest area on the Red Wine Hiking Trail. The hiking trail near the rest area is beautifully rocky and crisscrossed with roots, offering outstanding views of the Ahr Valley.

From the campsite north of the lake and along the eastern shore, there's a forest path around the lake. The path is unpaved and, in places, very dusty. This path is shared with pedestrians, so it can be busy on nice weekends, so please be considerate of others.

In spring and fall, WildeAhr has a sales booth here. The WildeAhr sales company sells wines and products from the Ahr region and regularly hosts events. At this time of year, you'll find such stands every few kilometers along the Red Wine Hiking Trail. Ideal for taking a break and sampling the excellent wines of the Ahr region. The stands often also offer snacks.

The oval lake, with an area of approximately 3.3 km² and a water depth of more than 50 m, is the largest lake in Rhineland-Palatinate. Lake Laach and the surrounding lands are owned by the Maria Laach Abbey.
