Water can collect in the Landwehrgraben. It bubbles up from the rock behind the low wall. Shade plants and ferns sprout there. A small wetland biotope.

A very impressive place on the Way of St. James from Schwelm to Beyenburg. I stumbled upon the cemetery completely unprepared and spent a long time walking among the gravestones through the pathless grass, reading the inscriptions, and thought about how terribly oppressive life must have been for the last people buried here. Later, I found a very comprehensive Wikipedia article that traces the lives of many people. The last person buried here, Artur Cohn, died in 1943 in the Jewish house in Schwelm; his wife survived as if by a miracle. One gravestone features a memorial inscription for a husband who died in New York in 1946.
