The collecting pond is worth a little detour. There is a nice “selfie spot” and a small “observation tower”. From there you have a very nice view of the pond.

The Ems Information Center marks the starting point of the popular Ems Cycle Path, which runs approximately 385 km from Hövelhof in the Senne River to Emden on the North Sea. The exhibition aims to inspire anticipation of the beautiful landscapes cyclists will traverse along the Ems River, and the multitude of sights that are worth getting off their bikes for. Visitors receive information about the tourist attractions and experience the highlights along the Ems River before embarking on a trip. The information center vividly describes the Ems' source region, particularly the Ems's unique characteristics as seepage springs, which flow continuously throughout the year. Visitors can experience the Ems itself in a model or accompany a ship from the famous Meyer shipyard in Papenburg through the Ems barrage toward the North Sea.

The Heidschnucken sheep farm, located on the edge of the Senne military training area near Hövelhof, is a fascinating example of traditional agriculture and nature conservation in North Rhine-Westphalia. The sheep farm is part of the Paderborn/Senne District Biological Station and is home to a herd of around 1,000 Gray Horned Heidschnucke animals, an old and endangered breed of domestic animal. These sheep play a crucial role in the care and preservation of the Westphalian heath landscape by browsing to protect the heather from becoming obsolete and keeping the area free of emerging trees and bushes. The sheep farm and its animals are looked after by a team of professional shepherds, including manager Mike Lindley. Far from the idyllic postcard romance, the work of a shepherd requires a high level of commitment and expertise, particularly with regard to the health and welfare of the animals. Shepherding is not a job with fixed working hours; It requires a lot of patience, calm, experience and love for the animals as well as a certain degree of weather resistance, as the sheep are kept outdoors all year round except for the lambing season in March, when they are briefly in the stable. The Heidschnuckenschäferei is not only responsible for the landscape management of dry and wet heaths, poor grassland and grassland, but is also an attractive destination for visitors. Events such as heather blossom festivals, open days in the sheepfold during lambing season and visits to the snail herd on the heath are regularly offered. These activities offer great potential for education and outreach and allow visitors of all ages to learn more about the sustainable care of the dairy landscape and the importance of preserving ancient domestic animal breeds. The Senne itself is an area of high ecological importance, characterized by a mosaic of forest, heath, meadows and swampy quarries, in which many endangered animal and plant species can be found. The extensive pasture management by the Heidschnucken contributes significantly to the preservation of this landscape. The military use of the area has paradoxically contributed to nature being able to remain partially undisturbed here, which makes the Senne one of the most valuable natural areas in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Behind every bend there is a new, magnificent perspective of the picturesque Ölbach. The natural path that follows the Ölbach stream requires sure-footedness here and there.
