The forests surrounding the Frechen quartz works were created through recultivation. A wide variety of tree species thrive in the sandy soils around the mining site. Since 2022, several hiking trails have been marked in the forest, including the Sandman Trail.

Welcome to the moon! The quartz works in Frechen are closely linked to the city's history. Since 1884, exceptionally pure quartz sand has been mined here for various uses, including glass production. The rugged terrain has its own unique charm and is somewhat reminiscent of the lunar landscape.

The Gold-Kraemer Foundation is a Frechen-based non-profit foundation founded in 1972 by the entrepreneurial couple Paul R. and Katharina Kraemer to support people with mental and physical disabilities, as well as the poor, elderly, and sick. It is one of the largest social charitable foundations of private initiative in Germany and also supports projects in the fields of healthcare, education, art, and culture. Since the deaths of the two founders in 2006 and 2007, respectively, the Gold-Kraemer Foundation has also been the sole shareholder of the Kraemer Group, which currently operates 45 jewelry stores in Germany.
