03/28/2024: It is the first season in 67 years without diesel fuel. Since last May, the EMS Westfalen has been gliding CO2-neutrally with green electricity over the dam in southern Sauerland. "The electric drive ran perfectly," says fleet manager Nicole Keseberg, pleased that there were no problems after the conversion in the middle of last season. Thanks to the positive experience, the second ship in the Biggesee fleet, the MS Bigge, is now also being converted. "The diesel engines have already been removed and the electric motors installed. Kilometers of cables are currently being laid," says Nicole Keseberg about the current status and the work of her crew during the winter break. From Pentecost, there will also be boat trips on the lake with the "new" EMS Bigge. After a successful season last year, the passenger shipping company is continuing to expand its program. In addition to the scheduled trips, there are significantly more events in the calendar. "We have noticed that guests increasingly want an additional experience on board in addition to the boat trip," the operations manager describes the trend.
