The cliffs near Timmendorf on the island of Poel lie south of the seaside resort of Timmendorf-Strand and are among the island's most striking landscape features. Reaching heights of up to 15 meters, the cliffs were formed by the continuous erosion of the Baltic Sea, which slowly wears away and constantly reshapes the land. From the edge, there is a sweeping view across Wismar Bay and the open sea. A narrow path runs along the top, while below on the beach, one can find rocks, petrified remains, and sometimes fossils. The cliffs also provide a valuable habitat for coastal birds and rare plants adapted to the dry, windy conditions. They are among the most impressive natural wonders on Poel and vividly illustrate the dynamic forces of the Baltic coast.

The ship Cap Arcona was named after Cape Arkona on the island of Rügen. The memorial commemorates one of the greatest maritime tragedies of modern times.

As sad as the occasion is, the memorial is equally beautiful. The old oak trees in the adjacent park are also impressive and beautiful to behold. A lovely shady spot, in any case.

From the path on the cliffs you have a wonderful view of the Baltic Sea. It is particularly beautiful here at sunset.
