On the run from the Nazis Kurt Tucholsky found asylum in Mariefred. After his death, he was buried in the local cemetery. In the castle Gripsholm, in which he lived, unfortunately no traces of his time could be found.
Eleonora's pavilion is a romantic building hidden in the forest and built in 1812. Its name is derived from Eleonora Liljencrantz, wife of former Minister of Finance, Johan Liljencrantz.
Beautiful sand beach and crystal clear water. There is a barbecue area with some fireplaces as well as a toilet. The beach is easy to reach as there is a parking area right next to the beach.
