시그투나의 마리아 교회는 13세기에 도미니코 수도회에 의해 세워졌으며 멜라렌 호수 지역에서 가장 오래된 벽돌 교회 중 하나입니다. 오늘날 시그투나의 중세 교회들이 폐허로만 남아 있는 것과 달리, 이 교회는 수세기 동안 계속 사용되어 왔으며 현재까지도 교구 교회로 사용되고 있습니다. 붉은 벽돌, 소박한 중세 내부, 그리고 오래된 교회 폐허와의 가까운 거리는 이 교회를 도시에서 가장 중요한 역사적 건축물 중 하나로 만듭니다.

시그투나 시청(Sigtuna rådhus)은 중앙 광장인 Stora torget에 위치하며 도시에서 가장 유명한 역사적 건물 중 하나입니다. 작고 목조로 된 시청은 1744년에 지어졌으며, 컴팩트한 건축 양식과 눈에 띄는 시계탑이 특징입니다. 주변의 목조 건물들과 함께 시그투나의 역사적인 중심부를 형성하며, 스웨덴에서 가장 오래된 도시를 산책할 때 특히 아름다운 사진 촬영 명소가 됩니다.

Here you can see Sweden's smallest town hall (at Stora torget) and a museum dedicated to the history of Sigtuna.

Sigtuna is considered to be Sweden's oldest town. It is said to have been founded around the year 970. But that is not why tourists come here. Today's Sigtuna attracts visitors with its idyllic town center, wooden houses, souvenir shops, restaurants and many cafés. Most of the shops and cafés are located in the pedestrian zone along the small main street, Stora gatan. The town also has Sweden's smallest town hall (on Stora torget) and a museum dedicated to the history of Sigtuna.

The monks of the Dominican Order received land in Sigtuna in 1237 and built St. Mary's Church (probably around 1240). The convent prospered and became an educational centre until it lost importance in the late Middle Ages. It was dissolved in 1527 during the Reformation. Unlike other old churches in Sigtuna (St. Per, St. Olof, St. Lars and St. Nikolai), of which only ruins remain, the monastery church was preserved while the monastery buildings were demolished. The church became the parish.

Here you will find the Lunsentorpet, there are 8 beds (but you should bring your own sleeping bag), a stove, a table with several chairs and many other useful things. It is definitely a good place to rest for a night!
