Åsarp-Smula Church is the third church of the order on this site. In the 12th century, Norra Åsarp Church was built in Romanesque style with a strong tower. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was decided that the parishes of Norra Åsarp and Smula should build a joint church. Norra Åsarp Church was demolished in 1829 to make way for a new church building. The new church was consecrated in 1830, when the medieval church in Smula was also demolished.
