The “village” of Dornes, in Ferreira do Zêzere, is usually called the Enchanted Peninsula or the Mythical Land of the Templars. These epithets are well-founded. The small town is located right on top of a lovely peninsula surrounded by the Zêzere River reservoir and has the famous Templar Tower of Dornes, a pentagonal defensive tower of which no other examples are known in Portugal. It is worth going beyond the village of the Church of Ns Senhora do Pranto towards the Dornes cemetery and arriving at the tip where you can see the Zezere River on both sides. The tip of the Dornes Peninsula, a fjord if you will.

Very nice descent of this small stream, waterfall after waterfall, a real pleasure but be careful it is quite slippery in places.
