The Baggelhuizen recreational lake is located on the west side of Assen and boasts an impressive 125 hectares! The lake features a large beach, a play island, and a jetty with a slide and cable car. The water is approximately 2.5 meters deep. The grounds also include a kiosk, restrooms, a shower, and sports fields (volleyball court and soccer field). A designated BBQ/picnic area is located near the swimming area. It is well-maintained and offers ample parking. Surroundings: The Baggelhuizerplas is named after the Assen residential area it borders: Baggelhuizen. The lake itself is situated in a large recreational area that is also perfect for cycling and walking. Various accommodations are available in the area, and the capital of Drenthe, Assen, is nearby. There is also a wonderful Beach Club. At Beachclub Zand Erover, we strive to create a world between reality and dreams. A relaxing and inspiring environment with delicious food and drinks. Our unique architectural design creates an elegant, yet above all, pure and relaxed atmosphere. This, combined with our warm hospitality, makes everyone feel at home. Between Amelte and the former railway line, you'll cycle along a beautiful path through diverse surroundings. You'll pass a long boardwalk in a marshy area.

The cycle path from Deurze to Schieven crosses the basin of this small stream and is particularly enjoyable to cycle (regardless of the weather). During extremely wet periods, the cycle path may sometimes be closed due to high water levels.

Old village church dating back to the 9th century. The Gospel has been preached on the site of St. Magnus Church since the 9th century. Excavations by Professor A. E. van Giffen have shown that the current church building was preceded by a series of wooden structures, likely built in the 9th and 10th centuries.
