It is not entirely clear when Huis Te Echten was built, but it is suspected that this was in the 14th or 15th century. What we do know for sure is that the house was extensively renovated in the early 19th century, which more or less formed the basis for the structure as it stands today. People lived in the house until 1971. Today it functions as a workplace for people with a visual or intellectual disability.

From here your adventurous trip on the Roekpad starts. Before you set off, enjoy an English-style cup of tea at the nearby tea house. Are you ready for it? Then follow Loek de Rook over the path. Loek will teach you everything about the nature you encounter along the way. You do that by listening, feeling, smelling, looking closely and even tasting! The route is also fun to walk for children with a visual impairment, for them there are signs in Braille along the way.
