The Wylerbergmeer is a lake and recreational area in the municipality of Berg en Dal, directly north of the Wylermeer. The recreation area is managed and operated by Leisurelands. It was part of the Wylermeer until 1973. There used to be a swimming pool on the site of the lake. In 1973, a diversion canal was dug between Wylermeer and Het Meer, splitting off Wylerbergmeer. A beach, meadow, parking lot and sanitary facilities have been constructed. The area is named after the Wylerberg. (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wijlermeer)

2월 22, 2024, Motte Mergelp on the Duivelsberg
Climb the 75.9 meter high Duivelsberg and you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the wooded area and the meadows of the floodplains below the moraine. The Duivelsberg nature reserve of the same name is approximately 125 hectares in size and is covered with deciduous trees, including a large collection of sweet chestnuts. There are many stories about the history of De Duivelsberg. For example, in the 11th century it was the strategic location of a motte (wooden) castle called Mergelp. From the first motte on the edge of De Duivelsberg it was easy to keep an eye on the surroundings. In addition, the hill has a sacred meaning for many and is still used for ceremonies. There are also stories that women who were accused of being witches, were drowned and bandaged in this place. This area originally belonged to Germany and was called Wylerberg or Teufelsberg, but was annexed after the Second World War. Unlike the other areas, the Duivelsberg was not returned, but it is still Dutch land property.

"Build bridges, build golden bridges, burn the bridges behind you." In fact, bridges are powerful symbols of more or less philosophical aphorisms: “People build too many walls and too few bridges.” — Isaac Newton, English naturalist and administrator 1643–1727 Source: https://beruhmte-zitate.de/themen/brucke/ “Of everything that man builds and builds, there is nothing better and more valuable than bridges.” — Ivo Andrič Yugoslavian writer 1892–1975 About people Source: https://beruhmte-zitate.de/themen/brucke/ “No one can build the bridge for you on which you must cross the river of life, no one but you alone.” — Friedrich Nietzsche, Untimely Meditations (1876) About Life Source: https://beruhmte-zitate.de/themen/brucke/

“Laat vriendschap helen, wat borders deelen” – “Let friendship heal what borders divide”. That's what it says on the signpost. In view of the German crimes of the Nazi regime and what is currently threatening to break out again in Germany, a very timely reminder of reconciliation and humanity!

1월 19, 2024, Porter's Lodge of Huis Wylerberg
Translation of the plaque at the house: Marie Schuster, the owner of the Wylerberg estate and the Wylerbergmeer lido, lived in this caretaker's house in Huis Wylerberg from 1946. She helped in the run-up to the During World War II, many Jews escaped and also hid works of art in their house were banned as “degenerate” in National Socialist Germany. Through acts of war their country house became uninhabitable. Her art treasures were also stolen. Unfortunately, after the war it proved difficult to repair the reputation of this distant aunt of Hermann Göring. Even those in hiding that she harbored and expressions of support from Jewish refugees whom she helped were not sufficient proof for the Dutch authorities that Marie Schuster was a “good German.” She received her money and property back only after the intervention of a British diplomat, who testified about the useful role she had played in providing intelligence information and making valuable initial contacts. Marie Schuster died in this house on May 14, 1949. Further information can be found in the landscape museum in Huis Wylerberg at the end of the way. Open from April to October on Wednesdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except public holidays). To visit outside of regular opening hours, visit https://www.landschapmuseum.nl/

1월 6, 2024, Filosofenbrug (Philosophers' Bridge)
The climbs are unprecedentedly steep by Dutch standards. In the depths of this mountain you will see the Philosophers' Valley, which looks as poetic as it sounds and through which the Philosophers' Brook meanders. A heavy autumn shower can accelerate the flow spectacularly. This water has a very high natural value. Swamp sedge, marsh fern and marsh marigold feel at home here. Elzenbroekbos grows in the area; You can admire the alder clumps (cones without seeds) all autumn long. The ash tree also bears fruit in the fall.
