The middle section of the current house dates from 1662. In the 19th and early 20th century it was expanded with a total of four towers. Nijenhuis Castle used to be a manor, a fortified castle. Het Nijenhuis was first mentioned around 1380. The different parts of the impressive structure date from different times. For example, the country house, which forms the core of the castle, dates from 1662, the towers at the front from 1791-1794 and the wings at the rear from 1914-1915.

This beautiful chapel of St. Mary's is somewhat hidden in the forest. It is built in the English cottage style and one almost believes to be in England. Surrounded by old rhododendron bushes. On the side of the bell tower are some old tombs.

It is covered with a gable roof covered with red terra cotta tiles, the roof shields of which swing slightly downwards. The entrance is located on the SW side. This is preceded by a portal open at the front under a gable roof covered with red terracotta tiles, the side facades of which are made of red brick (below) and half-timbering (above). In these side walls a double window with a cloverleaf-shaped bar arch with stained glass windows. The entrance consists of a wooden pointed arch-shaped door, with rich decorative wrought iron fittings.
