The Moorkate museum complex in Hambergen Ströhe is an important stop for exploring the Teufelsmoor and the history of this interesting region around Worpswede. The museum complex has been continuously expanded since 1980 and today it gives a detailed historical overview of rural life in the Teufelsmoor region. More buildings have been built and the exploration of all exhibits allows us to immerse ourselves in a long bygone era. The settlement and use of the moor landscape around Spreddig-Ströhe began around 300 years ago. The moor kate shown here in the museum is not an original from that time. However, this type of early house has been passed down on many paintings by the first Worpswede painters. About 150 years ago, most of these more developed houses in Teufelsmoor looked like the bog house exhibited here. The original Moorkate from the very early settlement was a kind of all-roof house with thatch and grass roofing. There are other interesting buildings with facilities and an extensive outdoor area on the museum grounds. The Heimatverein Ströhe / Spreddig e.V. was founded on May 3, 1991. At the suggestion of the then councilor Hans-Georg Taube, 29 other citizens met and held the founding meeting in Heimathaus Ströhe. The home association now has around 240 members. Its tasks include looking after the homeland and researching its history through historical local studies with special consideration of the Low German language in music and literature.
