Muff, derived from the Irish word 'Magh' (meaning 'plain') is a village near the mouth of the River Foyle as it converges into Lough Foyle. Despite recent proposals to rename it, such suggestions have been consistently rejected. Since the early 17th century, the small town has celebrated summer with the annual 'Muff Festival'.
