The impressive Atlas (Telamon) was created in 1729 as a name-day gift for the wife of Baron Goswin Lübbert von Ketteler. It overlooks Herrkotten Castle von Ketteler. Legend has it that the foundation for this larger-than-life statue was completed on the evening before her name day. The following morning, the Baroness gazed out of her bedroom window and was overwhelmed by the majestic sight towering 500 meters in front of the hunting lodge. In Greek mythology, Atlas is a Titan condemned by Zeus to carry the world on his shoulders. Another story tells that he watched the nymphs exuberantly playing with the globe. When they passed it to him and laughed, his eternal fate began. The path leads from the border crossing route to the left into the forest just before the road. You must also cycle back. If there is oncoming traffic, dismounting is a MUST. Crossing the

Glandorf is a municipality in the southwest of the Osnabrück district in Lower Saxony. The name comes from the term Glanathorpe - settlement on the Glane - and was first mentioned in documents in 1070. There is a nice restaurant/café on the "Peace Route" in the middle of the town where you can sit outside. (Source: Wikipedia)
