This small ancient village is a wonderful place to stop on your cycle. You must visit The King's Head pub which is famous for its unchanging interior with rooms that haven't seen significant updates in centuries.

For fans of the BBC comedy, Framlingham was the filming location for many scenes, including Lance’s flat. Mags’ shop is in the Market square and the pub is the Castle Inn.

High, flat, near-empty road across vast open farmland. You can see why it was the perfect spot for a wartime airfield. A lot of the old runways and service roads are still in use as farm tracks.

The Black Dog Deli near the top end of the main shopping street is a good option for a cafe stop, with plenty of space out front. Open 8am-4pm Mon-Sat.

Scenic little village green with a PO/shop and pub. Reputedly the place where the last Anglo-Saxon king of East Anglia, Edmund the Martyr, was killed by the Danes.

Fairly typical Suffolk village: pleasant but nothing particularly special.

On the road from Hoxne to Cross Street lies Goldbrook Bridge, where Edmund is said to have hidden from the Danes. According to legend, a newly-wed couple spotted his spurs glistening in the moon (or sun) and, as the Danes dragged him away, he cried a curse on all bridal couples who should ever cross the bridge. Apparently until well into the 19th century, many local wedding parties would go the long way round rather than chance the curse.

Set amidst expansive parkland and a charming lake, Framlingham Castle has witnessed fascinating periods of history. The castle is managed by English Heritage and is well worth a visit. Even if you don't stop by, you can admire the views from the roadside – it's a very impressive sight!
