A four meter high lookout tower on the northern shore offers a view of the lake, its flora and fauna and a forest area spreading south of the lake on the Geest. Numerous species of birds nest at the lake. Whooper swans are often seen in winter.

One of the largest and most important moors in northern Germany is the Ahlenmoor near Cuxhaven and Bad Bederkesa. A two-kilometre-long moor adventure trail leads into this versatile moor. Numerous information boards bring the flora and fauna closer to the guest in pictures and words. A hiking trail also leads to the moor lakes. From one of the observation towers you have a great view of the landscape and the Halemer and Dahlemer See.

Good vantage point on the moor area with weather protection. It is worth bringing binoculars with you, as there is a lot to discover with a little patience. Good lighting conditions, as it is on the south side and therefore little backlight.

We enjoyed that in the area, at least when we were there, not a soul was to be found. However, this certainly also affects the tower. The ascent would only have been possible through a multitude of spider webs, which is why we left it 🙈

+++ Beautiful view over the lake and over the high moor landscape. +++ Birds and other animals can be observed with binoculars. +++ Rest area for snacks or tea time, but without seating on the tower, in front of it a bench (or pack a stool or blanket)

Great view of the moor. The paths are a bit narrow by bike and muddy when the weather is wet, but absolutely worth a trip when the weather is nice.
