Sometimes a visit to a smaller hilltop offers a more enjoyable view than trekking up a mountain. That’s the case with this trig point near Billing Hill, where you’re treated to beautiful views over the area's surrounding farmland and woodland.

Built by The Rotary Club of Otley in 1977, this indicator was to commemorate the silver jubilee of queen Elizabeth II

Surprise View is a scenic viewpoint located above the town of Otley in Yorkshire. On a fine day you can more or less take a visual tour from York to Skipton and eye-feast the landscape in detail, including across the wonderful Yorkshire Dales.

Chevin Forest Park stands tall on a ridge on the southside of Wharfedale in West Yorkshire. Its elevated position provides fantastic views over the market town of Otley and expansive countryside surrounding ite. The Chevin is a wonderful place to explore history and geology, as it hosts a number of fascinating historical landmarks. It's also a haven for bird-watching, and features a diverse range of flora and fauna, including foot trefoil, yellow rattle, common knapweed and vetches, which in turn are great for the nationally rare bilberry bumblebee.

Stopped for lunch on the way back. Fed the family of swans. Also spotted a rather large jack pike.

Great outdoor seating area at the back over looking the Leeds Liverpool canal. Perfect spot to have a drink and watch the world go by!

Foxes, field voles, mice and weasels can all be spotted in this lovely little reserve, whilst bird life is positively prolific. Wild honeysuckle is common here and in the warmer months a sea of bluebells adds colour on either side of the trails. Just a short walk from Horsforth Station, it is a lovely patch of woodland to get back in touch with nature.
