On the River Debden, Woodbridge makes a beautiful location for a run. It is best known as being the home of Sutton Hoo, the burial site of an Anglo-Saxon King. He was interred in a ship surrounded by his most valuable possessions.

A spectacular place which sums up everything you might imagine about an English castle. It was built in the 12th century and was where Mary Tudor was proclaimed the Queen of England. A visit to Ipswich Waterfront is worth including in any tour of the town. Here you can admire countless yachts, and also also eat / drink well. There are a range of restaurants, cafes and bars here.

Picturesque little town with good refreshment options. The descent down the main street through the old part of town is a lot of fun.

Woodbridge is recognised as one of the gems in Suffolk's crown, combining excellent shops with superb pubs and restaurants, all on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it a great base to explore the area.

You can’t go into or around the castle with road bikes but you can go as far as the entrance with its impressive walls.

A great base for exploring the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, Woodbridge is a historic town on the River Deben. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as several accommodation options. The town is well known for Sutton Hoo, home to one of Britain's most important archaeological discoveries: the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his most valuable possessions.

Kyson Point is a lovely spot on the Deben Estuary, where you can find serene walking with only the sounds of birds and the wind for company. A short walk away is the National Trust-owned Kyson Hill, which rewards with fine views of the estuary. Ensure you're aware of tide times, as Kyson Point can be impassable during high tides.

I live on Ipswich Waterfront and most of my exercise, due to lockdown, is here. Worth knowing that it is now closed to vehicles to make it easier to use for exercise, although walkers and runners need to keep an eye out for cyclists as who uses path or road is very mixed! It gets very busy on warm or sunny days, so if you want to exercise you are best off getting out early if you want to be able to socially distance and keep moving. There are still occasional vehicles and when the hotel and bars/restaurants open again there are likely to be more, despite being prohibited at the moment. There is an active consultation on making the road closure to vehicles permanent.

It is most beautiful here at low tide in the late afternoon in winter, when the red and gold sun is reflected in the wet mud

It is a top spot to grab a bite to eat or a coffee. The Grazing Sheep is a pleasant Italian cafe overlooking the harbour. Towards Ipswich centre there is a great community cafe called La Tour, serving coffee, pastries and also hosts a small art gallery.

The original Norman Framlingham Castle, built in 1148, was destroyed by Henry II in 1148. The castle you see today was constructed shortly afterwards. From the 13th century, the castle became a luxury home before falling into disrepair at the end of the 16th century. For 200 years, the castle was owned by Pembroke Collage of the University of Cambridge, before becoming a drill hall and county court.
