A good place to pause for a moment at any time of the year. Unfortunately the wooden bridge is currently (01/24) closed.

The war memorial at Zinna Monastery stands on the market there under the peace oak tree and opposite the monument to Frederick II. The simple granite stele names the 68 names of those who fell in World War I and continues to commemorate World War II without mentioning the names of those who died in that war to name. The monument ends at the top with an iron cross. The font of the names should be renewed. The two inscriptions read: "They died a heroic death for the fatherland" and "To commemorate the dead, to remind the living 1939-1945". In honor of the city's founder, Frederick II, a monument was erected in 1864 on the central market square of Zinna Monastery. The monument was destroyed in 1949. On April 8, 1994, a replica by the sculptor Friedemann Sandner, financed by donations and created according to authentic specifications, was placed on the historical base. You can find out about this on a board on the back of the base. At the front you can read the somewhat weathered inscription: "Frederick the Great, the founder of the city in 1764. The grateful Zinna monastery in 1864." Source: http://www.helmutcaspar.de/aktuelles19/blnpdm19/hagen.htm

The Luckenwalde coat of arms - history and symbolism The settlement of the Luckenwalde area goes back at least to the great migration of peoples. The Germanic tribes that originally settled here were followed by the Slavic Wends, who were in turn pushed out by German settlers. Only a few traces, remains of castle walls or the mighty market tower, give an idea of the eventful history. In 1216 the name Luckenwalde was first mentioned in a document. In 1285, Luckenwalde and 11 surrounding villages were sold to the Zinna monastery. Key local historical data includes a document dated January 9, 1430, through which Luckenwalde was granted "city-like rights", such as the right to brew. Nevertheless, Luckenwalde continued to be called a village, a patch or a little town. Luckenwalde only formally became a town in 1808. In 1540, when the monastery transferred jurisdiction in all police matters to the Luckenwalde Council, Luckenwalde acquired its coat of arms (seal) because it was essential for certification. The oldest known seal (1556) has a bird above the coat of arms. In 1754 a seal impression shows the pelican known from Christian iconography...
