On the patronage of this church: Saint ANDREW is one of the twelve apostles whom Jesus Christ called to follow him. However, in the biblical accounts he is usually somewhat overshadowed by his much more famous brother: Saint Peter. In the Gospels we find the calling of the two siblings presented in different ways. According to the text version of the Gospel of John (John 1:40-42), Andrew is called first (together with another disciple whose name is not mentioned). Later he tells his brother that he has found the Messiah. The feast of Saint Andrew in the calendar of saints is on November 30th in all major Christian denominations. The X-shaped white "St. Andrew's Cross" on which he was executed forms the national flag of Scotland against a blue background and has also found its way into the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Ruins of a friary in Dunwich. Shows how much land is lost to erosion

Beautiful spot to watch the sunrise, if you can time it right.

Now just a little set of ruins standing in the churchyard, like some old broken mausoleum.

Classic traditional beach cafe. Good option if you want a hearty lunch. Open every day from 10am between March and November, closing time depends on the time of year.

Now part of a regional pub chain. Nice, but more of a gastropub than a local boozer although they have a bar menu available Mon-Sat which includes a sausage roll. Or maybe you'd prefer the £15 baked camenbert?

Very popular tourist destination, with the village green and nearby beach. The Tea Shed closes at 3pm but the tearoom in The Parish Lantern shop a couple of doors down past the village sign is open until 5.30pm every day.

The lowest road crossing on the Blyth and the views over the marshes are scenic, but it's not a peaceful route as the traffic and lorries thunder past you at 60mph on the A12!

There's a commemorative bench tucked away in the undergrowth just off the path. If it wasn't for the straight former railbed that now forms the path you'd hardly suspect it was there.

Quite reminiscent of St Andrew's Church at Covehithe (komoot.com/highlight/4811604). Also still in use despite being partially ruinous.

Beautiful views of the Blyth marshes. The gravel path is compacted and level with no pot holes, and only runs for a few hundred metres, so fine on road tyres.

Approached via a short gravel stretch from either direction but quite rideable. Tremendous views of the River Blyth estuary and the harbour.

Look out for the giant scallop on the shore. the metal sculpture caused a future when it was erected, but it's undeniably striking.

Take a detour off the road to visit this ruined abbey. Free access, open to 5pm most days of the year.

A great pub by the seaside - so much more than just the finish line for the Dunwich Dynamo. Its got a beautiful interior and bar, and a wonderful spacious walled garden if the weather is nice. There are a few rooms at the pub, but book in advance as they fill up quickly.
