Rochester is a great town for sightseeing and cafe stops, a must visit on a ride from London to Kent (or back). Castle Hill is one of the highlights, with a great view of the castle and the cathedral.

Following the Black Death, the village was abandoned, and the church stood empty for centuries. In 1990 Doug Chapman, a chartered surveyor who had worked at Canterbury Cathedral, purchased the church and began restoring the building, originally with the intention of turning it into a weekend home. Since 1999 it has been licensed as a civil wedding venue.

I cycled past by chance, and very much enjoyed the cafe there!

Cattle are used to keep the ground plants down in Cobham Woods.

Darnley Mausoleum was entered into a competition on the TV programme Restoration, in which viewers could vote for a property that they wanted to be restored. Although it failed to win the money through the programme, a partnership of local councils and organisations including the National Trust managed to raise the funds for the project.

It’s always quiet here get some good speed on this traffic free environment! This is one of my favourite places to ride as I can get so much speed and don’t have to worry about potholes or cars!
