The Trinity House Obelisk, also known as the Trinity House Landmark, is a 19th-century obelisk located at Portland Bill, on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. Built as a daymark, it has been Grade II Listed since 1978.[1] The obelisk was built in 1844 to warn ships off the coast of Portland Bill. It stands at the southern tip of the Isle of Portland, acting as a warning of the low shelf of rock extending 30 metres south into the sea. The obelisk is made of Portland stone and is seven metres in height. It is inscribed "TH 1844" on its north face. The monument was saved from threatened demolition in 2002 after Trinity House deemed it too expensive to maintain.

Portland Bill is the southern tip of the isle of Portland. This spot has been an important signal location since Roman times. There has been a lighthouse here since at least the early 1700s. Today the lighthouse is automated and there is a large obelisk, built in the 19th century as a day mark. The South West Coast Path runs around the edge and a loop of the island makes for a brilliant run.

Beautiful old bridge which is scheduled to open at 10am, 12pm, 14pm and 16pm. Unfortunately we weren't there

Picturesque historic bustling harbour area forming the mouth of the River Wey. Plenty of restaurants and cafe along this stretch of water on both sides.

Small cafe situated just off from the Lighthouse… A number of trails leading away in different directions.

Flat cycle way out to Portland which is not flat. Shared with pedestrians. Subject to pretty strong cross winds (right on the coast). Stop off at the RSPB site (with shop) and Taste Cafe for eats and enjoy the views from Chesil Beach. Nice videos of bird life to watch and you can take a look at some in real life too. Some excited birders today ;looking for White Eagle aka Sea Eagle seen recently (Apri; 2022) but you will be lucky to see one of those!
