You can take a break here in complete peace and quiet in the middle of the city. Everything is blooming, a stream is bubbling, you can listen to the birds... What a pleasant place!

Combesgate Beach is just north of Woolacombe Beach and is much quieter and a lot smaller in comparison. Check the tides if you are thinking of visiting as there is only a small bay at high tide. Low tide reveals some lovely rockpools and a much bigger expanse of sand.

Just two miles along the coast from busy Ilfracombe, the peace of Lee Bay is a stark contrast. It is a secluded beach and at low tide it is possible to scramble over the rocks and discover hidden coves. There are public toilets at the car park but for refreshments head inland to Lee and the Grampus Inn.

Illfracombe Harbour is many centuries old and is still a working port with a fleet of fishing vessels as well as leisure cruisers and sea-life safari boats. On the quay you will find pubs, restaurants, shops, fish and chips, ice cream, cafes and public toilets. Plus Damien Hirst's 'Verity', a 20m bronze statue, 'a modern allegory of truth and justice', on loan to Ilfracombe for 20 years since 2012.
