During the Margraviate War in 1553, the town of Lichtenfels was besieged. The town council then decided to sink the war treasure in the Flößerloch (Flößer's Hole). When the war was over, and the town castle and 98 houses had been reduced to rubble, the town council decided to dig up the treasure, but in vain. One suggested sending divers down. Another suggested fishing it out with fishing rods. A third advised draining the pond. This advice appealed to everyone. The next day, they went out with shovels and worked all day. Towards evening, the mayor came, inspected their work, and said: "The work is in vain. More water is flowing in than you are draining out." It's quite narrow, but so far I've never encountered another cyclist. There's a beautiful view of the Main River there.

In any case, it's a huge building. More defiant than beautiful.
