Ok but the hill climb is a bit taxing

A real feeling of history as you walk through the village.

Ideal spot to enjoy a peaceful village. Café with a great selection. Nice to sit down next to the beautiful river.

The memorial is not too far from the Maglia Rosso Cycle shop and cafe.

Beautifully maintained roadside memorial to Johannes Bartholomeus Jat Van Mesdag, a 21 year old Mustang pilot who died near here in an flying accident. He was born on 3rd October 1923 in Hilversum, Netherlands. Before the war he was studying in the U.S.A., living in Ardsley, Hudson, New York. He joined the Dutch Air Force in Canada and was sent to UK, arriving 17th August 1942. He was awarded his wings on 26th November 1944, joining 64 Squadron on 28th December. Within the Dutch Air Force, his rank was 2nd Luitenant. In the R.A.F.V.R. he was a Flight Sergeant but appears to have been commissioned at the time of his death. He had one kill registered; a Focke Wulf 190 near Frankfurt on 14th January 1945. He was based at RAF Bentwaters, flying North American Mustang Mk III. On 6th March, flying Mustang KH451, it appears he dived out of cloud into the ground a few miles NW of Lawshall. The accident was unexplained and came was unknown. Very pretty village in a stunning setting.

Nice location with tables out front so you can eat while keeping an eye on your bike with a view across towards the church.

A Dunwich Dynamo fixture. They serve hot food outside and the queues here are always huge! 16 miles to the next significant stop on the Dunwich Dynamo. If you are ride planning your DD fuelling / drinking strategy, then consider the McDonalds just out of Sudbury (it's on the route).

They also run a cafe doing coffee, cake etc. til 4pm on weekends and bank holidays.

Only 30m of elevation but steep, hitting double digit gradients. Great for a quick hill climb test, or a fast run down into the village before the road rises up as it reaches the green.

Twisting but steady gradient with a decent surface that allows you to carry your speed through the bends as you drop 35m down to the junction with the main road in the valley.

Stopped here a few times. Great pub. 👍

Lovely pub! Re: DUNWICH DYNAMO: They operated a basic barbecue (2023). Be warned, one of the longest and busiest on the route. (re-confirmed this in 2024) BUT it's the last significant stop for a little while. Enjoy the break here. Typically quite cold at the point you reach this on the Dunwich Dynamo.

Great place to stop for a drink. lovely outdoor garden. beware, they don't serve food before noon.
