Starting from Carrick Little Car Park, the hiking path to Slieve Binnian offers a rewarding journey through the heart of the Mourne Mountains. This moderate to challenging loop, approximately 11.2 km in length, follows the Mourne Wall, a historic dry-stone structure built in the early 1900s, guiding hikers toward the summit of Slieve Binnian (747 m). The ascent is steady, with a mix of rocky terrain and scenic views. As you approach the summit, the path becomes more rugged, leading to the iconic South and North Tors. From the summit, panoramic vistas unfold, offering breathtaking views of the Silent Valley and the surrounding peaks.

Lovely long dirt road for a hike or a run

At only 350m Knockshee is certainly not one of the tallest mountains in the Mournes however, it has some of the best views out across Carlingford Lough. Spin around and on a clear day you can see Slieve Binnian and even Donard in the distance.

Enjoy a phenomenal bit of Mournes scenery to take your mind off the fact that you're about to begin your ascent up a mountain. In your periphery, you can see Slieve Binnian to the west, Slieve Lamagan to the North, and Rocky Mountain to the east.

Chimney Rock Mountain is an enjoyable, and relatively strenuous hike, located in the eastern Mournes. The peak comes in at number 9 in the top 10 peaks by height, and provides some wonderful views of the neighbouring mountains, including Donard and Commedagh, the two tallest of the Mourne peaks, and out to the expansive Irish Sea, too.

Wee Binnian is a lesser known peak of the Mourne Mountains range. It's a slow and steady incline, making it a great one to do with kids or elderly people. The views north are dominated by the towering Slieve Binnian, you also get great views to the west over Silent Valley Reservoir and to the south over the rolling countryside toward the Irish Sea.

The Morne Mountains rise directly from the flat marshland - some as gentle, meadow-covered slopes, some rugged and rocky, and all of them simply beautiful and impressive.
