wonderful path, but without fruit

In 1905, the Solnhofen Beautification Society established the "Experimental Garden" here. The cherry and walnut trees, as well as numerous hazelnut bushes, were planted to provide food for the local population. Over the years, only about 90 hazelnut bushes survived. In 2009, the Beautification Society decided to transform the now overgrown experimental garden into a wild fruit orchard. Between 2011 and 2014, 80% of the hazelnut bushes were cleared, the rootstocks removed, and wild fruit trees planted. Source: Information board on site

Here, between Solnhofen and Esslingen, is a beautiful high-altitude trail with several benches and stunning views of the Altmühl Valley and, in some places, the "Twelve Apostles."
