Impressive fortress that still dominates the centre of Norwich. Now a museum.

This beautiful cathedral was originally built as a church in the early 13th century and became a cathedral for the newly established Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in 1914. It has some beautiful characteristics including a large rose window, detailed stone carvings, fantastic gardens and the notable Abbey Gate.

The approach from the north is fine, on good tarmac. On the south side of the underpass the route towards Bury is narrow with spiky brambles trailing across the path, like police tyre stingers, and then a section of gravel. Ok for a couple of riders happy to pick their way along but groups would be better avoiding.

A good way to cross the A14

Scenic setting, tucked against the woods. Access is down a unmade track if you want a closer view so only suitable on road tyres in good weather.

Interesting round tower church. Worth a visit.

This small yet charming church owes its name to the East Anglian king who was murdered in 794. Notably, in addition to its tower, it houses surprising interior wall paintings.

This church from the late medieval period is located a bit north of the village of Rougham, next to the school. In good condition, it was during the restoration in 1880 when the remains of a 13th-century church were uncovered.

In this church, you can see one of the forty-four round towers that exist in Suffolk. Although the tower of this church, perhaps its most distinctive feature, has undergone alterations over the years, there is evidence suggesting that its core may be over a thousand years old.

Listed as one of the '50 Great British Trees', the oak was reputedly where Robert Kett addressed a meeting which resulted in 'Kett's Rebellion' against enclosure of common land and rising living costs. It didn't end well: the Ketts and other rebels were later hung here. Avoid the busy main road and use the cycle path which runs parallel to it just behind the tree.

Quaint market town with the usual collection of shops and cafes making it a good place for a ride break.

Would have been amazing in its day but now it’s just a bit of ruined masonry on a busy road into Bury, opposite a Ford garage and next to a Tesco warehouse. Sic transit gloria.

Occupies the site of the old abbey with a very scenic set-paved road taking you past the front.

Quintessential Suffolk: wide, rolling views, and pig farms. An avenue of trees has just been planted along the road so come back in a couple of decades to see the change.

Foodie pub with a large beer garden (tucked off through an arched gate to the right). Good bet for a lunch or refreshment stop.
