Lovely rolling gravel road through Forest

The present building is a cathedral. The abbey that preceded it was shut down after the reformation and only its ruins remain.

This was the original route from Stanton to Bury St Edmunds. The wooded parts are home to thousands of Bluebells in late spring.

This beautiful cathedral was originally built as a church in the early 13th century and became a cathedral for the newly established Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in 1914. It has some beautiful characteristics including a large rose window, detailed stone carvings, fantastic gardens and the notable Abbey Gate.

Very pleasant to encounter a large body of water during a hot day riding @ Gt Livermere lake - a bumpy off road byway, gravel farm track - lots of water birds on the lake for anyone who likes these. 🚴‍♂️

Located near Bury St Edmunds, King's Forest was named to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary. Along with being home to fallow deer, the chalky soil supports a prolific flower population including Wild Thyme, Bird's Foot Trefoil and numerous butterflies, such as Dingy Skipper and Brown Argus - a joy for any nature lover at any time of the year.

This wood is ideal if you enjoy peaceful running surrounded by nature and well-defined trails. It's a woodland dominated by mature pines and oaks, but also features recently planted conifers. Around you will also find Dale Pond – if you're a fan of dragonflies, this is your spot. There's a 2.5 miles circuit called the Yellow Walk, which starts and ends at the car park.

The Ixworth village sign that we see on this corner presents the context of this village throughout time. On each of its sides, we can observe a representative image from a significant period of history for the village and its community.

To get to the church, you have to take a small driveway from the main street, which will lead you to the church and a small churchyard with the War Memorial. Regarding the church, the tower stands out, dating from the late 15th century.

This is the older of the two mills in the village of Pakenham, the watermill. Not just in Pakenham, but we're talking about the oldest operational watermill in Suffolk. Lovely spit for a coffee stop or lunch. If you're lucky you can pop into the cathedral and hear the choir practicing!
