The park sits on a hill, allowing for a commanding and open view of the cathedral, which dominates the surrounding flat landscape.

In the summer you can rent cycles adjacent the NT building (near the cycle stands) at Wicken Fen. The cafe there is good but I'd recommend parking your cycle in your eyeline unless you have secure locks (take your removable valuables off the cycle)-it gets very busy around those stands.

Nice local cafe that's a good option for a mid ride cafe stop. Good coffee and cake selection and a very friendly team.

A pleasant ride along the river Cam, cycle paths are smooth and fast flowing, look out for cows, they have a habit of hanging out near the gates!

Cock-Up bridge crosses the Burwell Lode near Adventurer's Fen car park. There has been a bridge here for years, the older horse (and bike) friendly bridge was replaced by one with steps, plans are afoot to replace the bridge with a cycle friendly version.

A low traffic connection from the city centre to Barnwell and east Cambridge but paths often covered in cow shit.

Unless you like stopping to look around a museum while wearing road cleats, not really a highlight. One for bike tourers, not road cyclists.

Avoid this route if your bike is too heavy to easily lift and you don't have anyone with you to help. The steps are very steep, and I've crossed this bridge with an ebike that was 40% of my own weight, and wouldn't recommend it.

That mechanical bridge is never down, don't dream!. You will have to push your bike through the Steel Bridge which is really steep.

Use the footbridge if the bridge is up.. has guides for the bike wheels so you don't have to carry your bike.

Historic lock with seeing. Typically the rowing clubs turn on one side, while the ponters are on the other side of the lock. Occasionally you can see a houseboat passing through.

Be warned that the road surface is continuously broken, which makes for a bumpy, slow ride. I did it on a gravel bike and figure that it could pose bigger issues to road bikes, also in terms of risk of punctures. There is a shorter non-tarmacked segment in between. At the time, the road seemed to be used for access for construction work on solar farms, so perhaps a resurfacing could follow once construction has completed.

Centrally located, being just a short walk from the river, the cathedral and the city centre, Cherry Hill Park is a lovely place for a shorter run or as part of a longer one around Ely. It is the best route to link the cathedral with the River Great Ouse.
