St. Luke's Chapel The St. Luke's Chapel was added to the former defensive tower in 1446. Stonemason's marks point to Stephan von Irlebach (1390-1460), who also worked on the Frankfurt Cathedral and St. Justinus Church in Höchst. The tower with its pointed roof made entirely of stone is 32 meters high. The roads to Aschaffenburg, Gelnhausen and the Eselsweg can be easily seen from the four bay windows. The chapel was built in 1446 at the instigation of Hans Kyle and his wife - as can be seen from the donor plaque. The hourly bell has been ringing since 1519. In 1523 the old sacristy and a small cemetery were added, which were used until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1783 the chapel became the property of the Schöllkrippen community. Pilgrims from the Mainz (Catholic) part of the Kinzig Valley stopped here on their way to Walldürn. A baroque figure of Wendelinus in traditional costume and two neo-Gothic statues, including Saint Luke, have been preserved. From 1908 to 1910, the chapel was renovated thanks to a donation of 4,500 gold marks from the merchant Wilhelm Steigerwald. He also donated the mechanical clock. The Stations of the Cross in cast bronze were made by Hermann Kröckel, who also created the wooden Pieta.
