The double meander is in the area of a fault zone (secondary pile; running parallel to the pile), where heavily deformed gneiss (mylonite; pearl gneiss) is present. The rock is exposed on the castle's impact slope. Part of the Ilz water is diverted at the Ilz dam before the second loop.
