The Einthal Chapel, a gem on the banks of the Altmühl River, is more than just a place of worship. It is a living testament to the history and faith of the people in this region. Built in 1883 by retired farmers from the Kastlhof estate, it is closely linked to the history of the surrounding farms. These small private chapels were an expression of the piety and faith of people who often lived far from the major churches.

The Burgrave of Rietenburg (also Burgrave of Riedenburg) refers to a minnesinger from the Babonen family, whose seven surviving stanzas are found in the Codex Manesse and the Weingarten Song Manuscript. However, this traditional designation as Burgrave of Rietenburg is misleading, as Riedenburg was not a burgraviate but merely a county. This is also reflected in the depiction of the minnesinger in the Weingarten Song Manuscript, where he wears a five-pointed count's crown, while the Burgrave of Regensburg in the Codex Manesse is depicted with a princely hat. Furthermore, many members of the Babonen family were also Counts of Riedenburg.[2] It has sometimes been assumed that the Burgrave of Regensburg and the Burgrave of Riedenburg were the same person. The Babonen family held, among other positions, the office of burgrave in Regensburg and the office of count in Riedenburg, and they used the name interchangeably, sometimes referring to one or the other. The identification of the two poets can be partially traced back to the Middle Ages; for example, in the Budapest Fragment[3] the seven stanzas of the Riedenburg poet are attributed to the Burgrave of Regensburg.[4] Only in the Codex Manesse (Ms. C) are the text corpora separate.[5] Stylistic studies, however, reveal considerable differences between their works, with the works of the Burgrave of Regensburg considered more archaic and dated to around 1170. The Burgrave of Riedenburg is thought to be either Henry IV or his brother Otto IV (d. after 1185), or possibly Frederick I (d. 1181). Family ties existed between the Babonen and the Babenbergs, and thus it is not surprising that members of the Babonen were often found at the Viennese court, where the Danubian Minnesang (courtly love poetry) flourished. The Einthal Chapel, a gem on the banks of the Altmühl River, is more than just a place of worship. It is a living testimony to the history and faith of the people of this region. Built in 1883 by retired workers from the Kastlhof farm, it is closely linked to the history of the surrounding farms. These small private chapels were an expression of the piety and faith of the people who often lived far from the main churches. The chapel, which has been privately owned by the Greiner family since around 1900, was dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. Its outward appearance is rather simple, its furnishings a hodgepodge from various eras, from the Baroque to the Rococo. A special feature is the altar, which is about 100 years older than the chapel itself. Over the years, the chapel has been restored several times. The last major renovation took place in the 1980s. Despite all efforts, the ravages of time are taking their toll on the chapel. The owner, Josef Greiner, is the fourth generation to run the chapel. He strives to preserve the small church and preserve it for future generations. A secluded place to linger The peaceful location directly on the Main-Danube Canal makes the chapel a place of peace and relaxation. From here, you can enjoy a picturesque view of Prunn Castle and the surrounding nature. In the shade of the two mighty linden trees, you can unwind and let your thoughts wander.
