On Wiesbrunnenstrasse, you can still see a vineyard tower that dates back to the heyday of Plochingen's winegrowing. A hundred years ago, this vineyard guard's house, built in 1559, stood amidst the vineyards; from here, the vineyard guard watched over the vines during the autumn.

The Ottilien Chapel on the market square is the oldest church and also the oldest surviving building in Plochingen. Consecrated in 1328, it was built over a site that had long been home to a healing spring and a pre-Christian place of worship. Since its restoration in 1991/92, the medieval tile floor inside the chapel has been uncovered. It can be seen beneath the current floor, covered by glass.

As early as 1846 – just one year after the first railway in Württemberg opened on the Stuttgart-Cannstatt line – Plochingen was connected to the railway network, and only a few years later, in 1859, it became a railway junction. For several decades, the railway shaped the town's development, marking the beginning of the industrialization era.

The footbridge, with its brick arches, leads across the Neckar River towards Plochingen and the former factory buildings of the Otto textile company.
