National Trust Bothy in a quiet corner of the farm. A great stopping point, a short walk from the coastal path.

Grouse everywhere if you watch your step

If your watch your step in the woods the area is full of grouse

A small selection of trails that take you through the trees and open areas, with some good views down the valley.

note - bridleway stops at this point so it's a walk to Mouthmill

Walk this route in spring (we were there in May) and you'll be rewarded with an "alleyway" of beautiful flowering rhododendrons

This iron age site commands good views along the coastline to the east and the west and across surrounding the countryside, it would have stood as a beacon against the skyline.

Brownsham Wood is located on the sloping cliffs of North Devon and is bursting with beautiful ash, oak, birch & hazel trees.

The strata rock formations along this stretch of coast are stunning, the paths has some incredibly tough climbs and whether you are running or walking I recommend taking moments to soak ok in the views here.

A bit of a diversion of the South West Coast Path if you're running but well worth the effort. The beach is large at low tide but quite small at high tide, it's rocky and has a great wave cut platform. Blackchurch Rock is an amazing double arch. The seaward face has some brilliant rock climbing.

Mouthmill Beach is home to the magnificent Blackchurch rock is a large arch stack. The magnificent arches are made from Hartland Quay Shale and contain goniatite fossils. The isolated cove has long been associated with smuggling activities. You can still see the remains of an old limekiln nearby whose limestone and coal would have been brought in via boat.

You can only access this from the Coast path and not from the A39.

Nice place to go for a hike. No where to get refreshments so make sure you’re well prepared.

Traffic free path that follows the coastline for a few kms

I parked in the national Trust car Park (honesty box) them followed the footpath through beckland wood, along the cliff and down onto mouthmill beach then returned via the footpath through snaxland and Brownsham Wood

The Hobby Drive is home to internationally important species of lichen (more than 250 varieties) and the mystical woodlands afford spellbinding glimpses of the coast. Hobby Drive was built between 1811 and 1829 by Sir James Hamlyn Williams as part of the Romantic movement, which celebrated the beauty of the natural world in response to the increasing emphasis placed on science and logic following the Industrial Revolution.
