Fridolin's Minster is the landmark of the town of Bad Säckingen and is dedicated to Saint Fridolin of Säckingen, a missionary presumably of Irish origin who founded various monasteries in the Alemannic region in the 6th century. Fridolin's Minster was the collegiate church of the Säckingen Convent and is today the main church of the Roman Catholic parish of Bad Säckingen-Murg. The monastery church was built in the Romanesque style, rebuilt in the Gothic style after a fire in the 14th century, and renovated with Baroque elements in the 17th and 18th centuries. The remains of Saint Fridolin are kept in a richly decorated silver shrine in the publicly accessible Fridolin Chapel on the right side of the choir. The procession on the Sunday after March 6th, commemorating the saint's death and commemoration, enjoys national renown. Due to its legendary history, the church has been included in the list of "Mythical Places on the Upper Rhine" (Wikipedia).

Since World War II, Schönau Castle has served as an important cultural center for the region, with its museum, changing art exhibitions and events.

The mountain lake is a small lake at 382 m above sea level. It is a natural lake up to 13 m deep, which was altered by human hands in 1802 and 1803. At that time, it was called the Black Lake.

The "Fools' Fountain" depicts the figures of the Bad Säckingen carnival: the "Römer," the "Siechenmännle," the "Maisenhardt Jeggele," and the "Hüüler." The fountain was made of Jurassic limestone in 1972 by Rheinfelden sculptor Leonard Eder.

Schönau Castle is surrounded by this beautifully landscaped and well-kept park. The castle complex was built in the 17th century by the Lords of Schönau to replace a moated castle. The park has many beautiful plants, several bird aviaries and also a bandstand for open-air performances and an open-air cinema.

The small castle houses the Hochrhein Museum with various departments, e.g. the trumpet museum and a department for prehistory and early history and the city's history.

The "Fuchshöhle" restaurant is the most striking building on Münsterplatz. It dates back to the 16th century. The very impressive and detailed painting on the facade dates from 1904 and shows motifs from the Scheffel epic "Trompeter von Säckingen".

The Münsterplatz is lined with numerous, very busy restaurants. Sometimes it is even difficult to find a free seat. So you can sit here with the best view of the impressive Fridolin's Minster.
