War Memorial on former airfield worth a few minutes stop.

A great ride through the RSPB area but be aware there is only one main route north/south that bikes are permitted. Brilliant area with cafe for a coffee and cake recharge!

The Lodge is a nature reserve managed by the RSPB. It's the largest stretch of heathland in Bedfordshire. Important species that can be seen here include Hobbies, Nightjars, Ravens, Common Lizards and Natterjack Toads. There are also areas of grassland and woods, important habitat for other species. There is a visitor centre, shop and cafe.

This is a long, straight off-road path with changing surfaces (gravel, singletrack) between Ashwell and Melbourn, which is part of the Icknield Way. It is not particularly scenic, but you can get that continuing westward toward Letchworth.

Loved this section. Chalky dry and fast!

Apparently the only complete windmill in Hertfordshire

The estate's cycle loop on compacted gravel was truly enjoyable and (in clockwise orientation) includes a short & punchy >10% climb, great views, and even a woodland section. On a Saturday morning around 10:00, it wasn't too crowded, with some walkers, runners, and other cyclists using the path.

One of my regular stops for coffee. New cafe open soon! You can cycle through the middle of the reserve - it’s a bridleway. Also along one edge from the cafe/shop to the station. Most paths closed to cycles due to ground nesting birds.

Great straight route, quite bumpy, alot divets. Ideal if you suspension to soak up the bumbs

A wonderful memorial to the RAF Scouting and Bombing Squadrons, please take the time to take in the area and its history.

Fantastic tribute to all those who served at RAF Steeple Morden. Take the time to pause and reflect and remember those who sacrificed so much.

Follow the track from Ermine Street and turn left immediately before the railway bridge. The first part of the track is quite rough and can be muddy, so care needed, but it soon levels out for a great ride to Ashwell.

Nice descent towards Cromer with a swinging right / left double corner which you can take flat out with the right line (but stay on your own side of the road in case of oncoming traffic around the bend).

A memorial to the Scouting and Bombing Squadrons stationed at the airfield, with several buildings and taxiways visible. A plinth with an airfield layout explains it all better than I can..!

Stunning place, however the staff are a bit hit and miss about whether bikes can go around the estate, despite a new cycleway having been created.

A traffic free connection between Melbourn and Ashwell.

Impressive memorial but not a lot left of the airfield to see.
