A great ride through the RSPB area but be aware there is only one main route north/south that bikes are permitted. Brilliant area with cafe for a coffee and cake recharge!

The Lodge is a nature reserve managed by the RSPB. It's the largest stretch of heathland in Bedfordshire. Important species that can be seen here include Hobbies, Nightjars, Ravens, Common Lizards and Natterjack Toads. There are also areas of grassland and woods, important habitat for other species. There is a visitor centre, shop and cafe.

Enjoy fantastic views down the River Great Ouse from Great Barford Bridge. Barford Bridge is an impressive landmark dating back to the 15th century. It was originally built from sandstone and limestone and has an impreswsive 17 arches!

One of my regular stops for coffee. New cafe open soon! You can cycle through the middle of the reserve - it’s a bridleway. Also along one edge from the cafe/shop to the station. Most paths closed to cycles due to ground nesting birds.

Amazing piece of history where incredible secret missions were carried out during WW2, commerated to the brave men and women who took part in nearly 1,000 missions from this spot.

The barn from which SOE Operatives were provided their equipment and parachutes before departing the secret airfield at Tempsford. The airfield was disguised as a farm and this, the last remaining building, serves as a memorial. Although it is on private land, it is accessible easily from the bridleway by a short bike push if you really want to follow the rules, or an even quicker cycle on the concrete access road. Take a bike light or phone torch as, although it isn't dark inside, it will help you if you wish to read the tributes and dedications in some of the alcoves. Worth linking with the other memorial 2.5 miles away in Tempsford Village
