There are two fountains here (Schäferbrunnen and Grauentalquelle). There is also a wetland biotope and a beautifully laid out barbecue area with firewood nearby. The barbecue area cannot be used at the moment (illegal waste burning🙈). It is now also under video surveillance.

idyllic location, unfortunately I was there outside of the opening times. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Otherwise 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4.30 p.m.

This is not the Schäferbrunnen, but the Grauentalquelle. In the first half of the 20th century, the spring served as a water supply for Böttingen. I don't know where the water is going now. The water disappears somewhere up to the Lippacher oil mill and then reappears down there in rusty and concrete dumps. The creek bed from here to below is therefore largely dry! The barbecue area is very luxurious with 2 swivel grills

This spring version, which you discover on a hike along the Old Shepherd Trail, is beautiful - almost kitschy. A bench right next to it invites you to rest, the barbecue area behind offers plenty of space and firewood for a barbecue over an open fire.

The Schäferbrunnen marks the entrance to the Schäfertal, a dry valley that can turn into a raging brook when the Danube floods. The fountain used to serve as a cattle trough for a long time, and the Grauental spring bubbling here was the drinking water supply for Böttingen. A nice resting place for cyclists and hikers!
